Job Description:

The Mapping Specialist is responsible for the creation, maintenance, analysis, and quality assurance of geospatial and cartographic data used to support operational planning, analytics, and strategic decision-making. This role requires strong technical proficiency in geographic information systems (GIS), spatial databases, and mapping technologies, along with the ability to interpret complex spatial information and communicate insights clearly to cross-functional stakeholders.

The ideal candidate demonstrates accuracy, analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple mapping projects within established timelines while maintaining data integrity and compliance with organizational standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Geospatial Data Management

Collect, compile, validate, and maintain spatial and attribute data from internal and external sources.

Perform geocoding, digitization, spatial analysis, and data transformation to ensure accuracy and usability.

Maintain metadata documentation and ensure adherence to data governance and quality standards.

Mapping & Visualization

Design and produce high-quality digital and print maps, dashboards, and visualizations for operational, analytical, and executive use.

Utilize GIS platforms and visualization tools to present spatial trends, patterns, and relationships.

Ensure cartographic outputs follow established symbology, scale, projection, and formatting conventions.

Analysis & Reporting

Conduct spatial analysis to support planning, logistics, resource allocation, and performance measurement.

Interpret geospatial findings and prepare clear technical reports, summaries, and presentations.

Collaborate with data analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders to integrate spatial insights into decision-making.

Systems & Process Improvement

Support the maintenance and optimization of GIS systems, spatial databases, and mapping workflows.

Identify opportunities to improve automation, efficiency, and data accuracy in mapping processes.

Ensure compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and security standards related to geospatial data.


Required Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Geography, GIS, Geospatial Science, Cartography, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, or a related field.

2–5 years of professional experience in GIS, mapping, or geospatial analysis.

Proficiency with industry-standard GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and spatial data formats.

Experience with spatial databases, coordinate systems, projections, and geoprocessing techniques.

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a structured environment.

Must reside in the United States and be legally authorized to work without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Python, SQL, or geospatial automation scripting.

Familiarity with web mapping technologies (e.g., ArcGIS Online, Mapbox, Leaflet).

Knowledge of remote sensing, GPS data collection, or spatial modeling.

Prior experience supporting logistics, infrastructure, utilities, healthcare, or government mapping initiatives.

Compensation:

Annual Salary Range: $65,000 – $92,000 USD, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and geographic location within the United States.
